Exploring the Beauty of Russia's Natural Wonders

As people begin to explore the world and look for unique places to visit, Russia is often at the top of the list of must-see countries. Most people think of the cultural and historical aspects of the country, but there is also an incredible range of breathtaking natural wonders to discover. From ancient volcanoes to flowing prairies, Russia's stunning scenery is well worth exploring.

The Ural Mountains carve out a beautiful border between Europe and Asia, stretching from the North of the country all the way to Kazakhstan. This unique geological feature is home to some of the country's most spectacular views. You can easily explore the mountains in the spring and summer months. Treat yourself to trekking tours and river fishing expeditions, or take a seat in the cable car and let the mountain peaks and panoramic views delight your eyes. One of the most untamed landscapes in Russia is the arid desert of the Ural Steppes. Home to camels, horses, and some of the country's oldest Buddhist monasteries, it's an area that should not be missed. Take a long drive through these wide plains and enjoy the wild view from atop the mountains. Explore the centuries-old churches and monuments of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Head further east to the Kamchatka Peninsula, where dark conifer forests, active volcanoes and dramatic shorelines make up the backdrop. Discover some of the world's highest concentrations of brown bears, explore the deep ravines and caves, or take a boat to one of the numerous uninhabited islands. Those that are braver can even try their hand at heli-skiing and snowmobiling.

If you want to relax, then head to Lake Baikal on your journey. The deepest lake in the world holds an impressive 20% of all the planet's freshwater. It's not only a natural phenomenon but it's also worth visiting for the breathtaking vistas and thousands of years of cultural history. There are plenty of activities to indulge in here, including tours of the famous ice caves, boat rides across the mystical waters, hot springs and traditional Russian saunas.

Soak up the unique atmosphere of the Baltic Sea, the gateway to the White Sea. A walk around the old Hanseatic cities, with their cobbled streets and centuries-old buildings, is a perfect way to absorb the vibes and culture that have shaped this region. Spend some time on the Baltic beaches, or enjoy a romantic boat ride on the lake district and take in the tranquil atmosphere.

A visit to Russia cannot be finished without exploring the vibrant capital, Moscow. Marvel at the cityscape, the iconic Kremlin, and the millions of pedestrians that flood the streets. Take a visit to the Red Square, an impressive area with its enormous buildings, carefully-tended flower gardens and traditional Russian cafes.

No matter which area of Russia you visit, there is an abundance of natural beauty to discover and explore. From rugged mountain ranges to vast steppes, crystal-clear lakes, tropical beaches and historical cities, Russia has a lot to offer.
